A school is defined as a Public School (PK-12), Special Purpose Private School, CDS Site, and CDS Approved Program.
Am I eligible to take the SB-BHP Training?
Employees who provide or will be providing School-Based Behavioral Health Treatment Services under MaineCare Section 65 Day Treatment or MaineCare Section 28 School-Based RCS are eligible.
How can I get the SB-BHP Training?
The University of Maine at Augusta has contracted with the Behavioral Health Sciences Institute (BHSI) to coordinate all aspects of the School-Based Behavioral Health Professional Training Program in compliance with the Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). BHSI instructs qualified individuals to deliver the SB-BHP training within schools. In addition, BHSI hosts SB-BHP courses throughout the year. BHSI sends out notifications of all SB-BHP trainings 30 days in advance of the training. If you would like to inquire about upcoming SB-BHP trainings, or if you would like us to include you on our mailing list, please contact BHSI at (207) 321-6081 x3302. Also, you can view the current list of state-wide trainings on our online training calendar.
How do I get a SB-BHP certification?
If you work under MaineCare Sections 65 Day Treatment and/or Section 28 School-Based RCS you will need to complete the SB-BHP provisional Module One within 30 days of hire, and then will need to complete the remaining six (6) Modules within a year of date of hire, or September 28, 2011, whichever is later.
My agency has a certified SB-BHP Trainer on staff, can s/he train me?
If you have a Certified SB-BHP Trainer in your agency, that person may administer the video, exercises, and grade the Module One Exam, and submit the results to BHSI. If you do not have a trainer, your agency can order the Module One video and exam from BHSI. You would then take the exam and submit to BHSI to be graded.
What do I need to pass the SB-BHP Module One Exam and SB-BHP Final Exam?
You need a grade of 75 or better to pass both the SB-BHP Module One Exam and SB-BHP Final Exam. If you receive a grade of 75 or better on the Module One Exam, you will obtain provisional certification which allows you to do SB-BHP work for a year while you simultaneously complete the rest of the modules.
