Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifications for becoming a PBS Trainer?

In order to be a PBS Trainer, you must attend the four-day PBS Train-the-Trainer class.  Most trainers work within a school district in the special education departments.

How do I apply to be a PBS Trainer?

You have to attend the four-day PBS Train-the-Trainer class and become a Certified PBS Trainer through BHSI.  Please contact us for further details.

What is the re-certification process for certified PBS Trainers?

PBS trainers are required to attend an annual PBS recertification training.  These trainings are scheduled well in advance to give people notification.  They are held in different areas of the state in an effort to accommodate as many people as possible.

How often do people need to be recertified for PBS?

People are certified annually either within their district or by contacting the Training Specialist at BHSI.

Who delivers the re-certification training in a district?

Either the Training Specialist at BHSI or a certified PBS Trainer who has completed the Train-the-Trainer class and who has been certified by BHSI.

I am a PBS trainer and I missed my last recertification; am I still certified to be a trainer?

No, you have to contact the Training Specialist as soon as possible to discuss why you were not able to make it to the training.  It may be possible to join upcoming recertification training.

My PBS certification has expired -what can I do to be recertified?

Contact BHSI to see how far your certification has lapse.  You may have to be recertified and take the 2-day training again.

How much notice do I need to give for a training scheduled at my school or within my district?

At least 30 days in advance is preferred due to other scheduled trainings.

What if I move to another district?  Will my certification still be valid?

Yes, BHSI keeps track of all people who have been trained, but you still want to keep track of the dates when you need to be recertified.

I am a certified PBS trainer; can I do other PBS trainings in other districts?

Not without written permission from the Director of BHSI.

What happens if I miss a day of training or miss part of a training?

You would be certified for the modules or topics for which you were present.  If you happen to miss the days that Therapeutic Holds are covered, we are unable to certify you.
