Established in 1997, the Behavioral Health Sciences Institute (BHSI) is a collaboration of Spurwink Services and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA).
The collaboration's mission is to improve the quality and range of behavioral health services through training and research.
BHSI works with various public sector agencies, private sector providers and other organizations in the development, delivery and evaluation of a wide range of competency-based trainings.
Our primary focus is on strengthening the capabilities/skills of those who provide direct care to children, adults, and families.
Through our Train-the-Trainer model over 539 people have been trained to deliver training to direct care workers in service agencies and schools.
Over 17,380 individuals have received certification as Direct Support Professionals and/or Behavioral Health Professionals.
