New England Wraparound Training and Credentialing Consortium (NEWTCC)

The New England Training and Credentialing Consortium (NEWTCC) is a group of diverse social service providers from New England who see the value in advancing the utilization and effectiveness of the Wraparound Process.

A Brief History

Chip Wilder, Director of Family Options in Massachusetts and Torrey Harrison, Director of the Behavioral Health Sciences Institute in Maine, are currently facilitating the efforts of NEWTCC.  Both are members of the National Wraparound Initiative (NWI) Workforce. The NWI (www.rtc.pdx.edu/nwi/) engages experts nationally in a process of defining standards and compiling specific strategies for conducting high quality wraparound.  In April of 2008, a phone conference took place with the NWI Workforce group.  This group is discussing issues around training and supervision to support the systems, organizations, and individuals engaged in the practice of wraparound.  Following the April meeting, Chip and Torrey began talking with colleagues about ideas for supporting the development of the Wraparound Process in New England for any individual with a complex situation.  During the spring and summer of 2008, NEWTCC had four phone conversations that started with two people and grew to ten in September.  The first meeting took place in October 2008 and concluded with an agreement to meet in February 2009 to continue to explore how to bring a Wraparound credentialing process to New England.  The interest and energy of NEWTCC continues to grow.  To date NEWTCC has accomplished the following:

  • Contacted Eric Bruns at NWI and received his support for NEWTCC’s efforts to establish a credentialing process for New England
  • Gathered data on how the Wraparound process is being utilized across New England
  • Drafted a one page description of NEWTCC’s vision
  • Created a web link on the BHSI website
  • Continuing to reach out to other interested individuals.

The Consortium plans to host an event in the fall of 2009 that offers interested parties an opportunity to learn more about NEWTCC, the Wraparound Process and the option to join a committee that is working towards creating a universal Wraparound credentialing process for New England.
